New Look | LGP News

Let's talk about a little something called branding.
Branding is so important for a business. It's what defines your unique style and what sets you apart from the rest. It's what your clients are hiring YOU for! You have a special look and feel about your photos that are appealing and interesting. And this isn't something that just happens overnight... it takes time to actually figure it out. I am still trying to figure it out!

With every brand comes a particular 'look.' A look is not just a certain color scheme or logo... it's something that when other people see it, they will automatically associate it with your business. That is why it is extremely important for your look to represent your brand well. I am definitely not an expert on any of this, but I do find it to be a rather interesting topic.

Now, figuring out my look is something I have been working on a lot lately. I've experimented with different logos, colors and patterns, etc. And while toiling with these different concepts, I always knew I wanted something fresh, fun and classy. I didn't want anything too cutesy or trendy, nor masculine or feminine.... I didn't want anything that myself or others would tire of easily. I've finally come up with what I feel, is a good representation of what myself and Laura Gordon Photography is all about- without actually seeing my photographs. I've come up with a color scheme of black and white damask with green. Now, you might wonder why or how I came to the conclusion that this was exactly what I wanted and how I wanted to portray my business (other than just liking the way it looked) and I will tell you...

I've always loved black and white together. Majority of my clothes are black or white (my favorite store being White House Black Market) I also feel together they are very striking and classy... see where I'm going here? Damask is a very timeless pattern... it is elegant, beautiful and also very classy. So together, I feel black, white and damask have a very classic and timeless appeal.

On the other side of things, I feel like some of my personality should shine. (Not that I'm not classy or timeless... I just think some would describe me a tad differently. Such as- young, fun or vibrant ...or at least I would like to think they would.) The color green to me, is fresh! It's bold! It's FUN! :) Now, I know I said I wear a lot of black and white- but I do like to dress it up with colorful accessories! I am all about color.... I love it paired with classic combinations though. Being that I am young, green also symbolizing growth... think trees, flowers and things like that. I have a lot to learn, and I know that! And I am excited and eager to learn all the time (especially when it comes to photography.) Green also reminds me of things that are fresh... like apples and pears. Laura Gordon Photography is pretty new or 'fresh' so I think green fits pretty well.

I've updated my website as well- be sure to check it out at www.lauragordonphotography.com

So there you have it... Laura Gordon Photography's new look! Enjoy :)

Maryanne + Troy {engaged} | Fredericksburg Engagement Photographer

It was Saturday night and I had been complaining to Mama how I really wanted to improve my photography somehow, asking her opinions and whatnot. What can I do to make it stand out? What do I need to get to the next level? And so on and so forth… I am always trying to come up with ways to better my skills & my business. I went to bed contemplating, trying to come up with something new, something fresh. I have a tendency to beat myself up sometimes & criticize things a tad too much.... everyone that knows me, knows I am a perfectionist (it's really bad)!

Sunday morning comes around & I receive a phone call bright and early. Turns out my photographer friend Nancy Balogh, needs a second shooter for an engagement session that day. I was thrilled, absolutely thrilled! I love getting together with other photographers and seeing how they do things- it really helps you see what you need to improve on. And boy was I in for a treat!

Nancy is the bomb dot com... seriously! We met and discussed some things beforehand… what she was expecting, locations, the clients, etc. I’m not going to lie, I was kind of nervous considering she has been in the biz much longer than I have, none the less, I was super excited!

After meeting the couple and introducing myself I felt much more relaxed. Maryanne and Troy are a super fun, easy going and not to mention a BEAUTIFUL couple!

This session could quite possibly be my favorite session yet! And that is really hard for me to say. I feel like this was exactly what I needed to tweak my business and understand what exactly it was I needed to improve on… Nancy is so relaxed and so natural when she speaks to her clients. She knows exactly what to say and when to say it; she very much so inspires me! I can’t thank you enough Nancy for inviting me along to second shoot for this amazing session.

Maryanne & Troy are very much in love and it shows! Not only were they gleaming with excitement and joy and smiling from ear to ear, you could hear it in their voice every time they spoke about their wedding (which is going to be fabulous by the way- think, southern belle with toile accents) or to each other, you could see it in their eyes every time they looked at one another, you could even almost feel it (if that makes any sense)! I hope you all enjoy these photos of this amazing couple…. and if I was able to capture even the slightest bit of the love they share for one another, I would be happy!

Here are a few of my many, many favorites!

Love this one, so sweet.

Maryanne was rockin' it- Most girls would kill for legs like that!

Be sure to share this session on Facebook!

Tu Session {lifestyle} | Richmond Portrait Photographer

When Kim contacted me inquiring about a session, I was very excited. I am always thrilled when I get inquiries about sessions especially with new clients- I absolutely love meeting new people and having the opportunity to do a job I truly love!

Anywho, Kim wanted to do this session as a gift for her boyfriend Matt for his birthday… which I think, is incredibly sweet. She had excitement in her voice as we discussed our plans for this shoot. She was very eager to have something that was fresh & sophisticated as well as something real, that was able to really capture their personalities! I think these pictures truly capture the bond that they share with one another. I hope you all enjoy their session!

If you like this session- share it on Facebook!

WELCOME ALL

Ok, so here it is... MY BLOG!
I know, I know... it's nothing fancy. It doesn't have moving text, fun music or a pretty background or anything, but hey- it's a start right? :) This is something that has been on my "To Do" list for, hmmmm... weeks, months, who knows! I am a little ashamed to admit this, but I am one of those people who will make a list of things to do and end up losing the list before I actually do them. (Something I have been trying to get better at.) So, in an effort to actually accomplish something on my "To Do" I am very excited to actually cross this one off!

I wanted to create this blog not only for another great marketing tool or to get my name out there, but to really connect with my friends, fans and prospective clients. I also feel like this is a terrific way for me to keep you all up to date with Laura Gordon Photography's ongoing plans & projects. I plan to post pictures with recent sessions, product news as well as other happenings in my life. So check back often & leave a comment if you'd like!

See you around! :)

This picture is one of my favorites from my latest session with the Ouk Family!
